Project: Journalism Intern

Project Placement: The Finder and The Daily Guide Newspapers, Accra

Duration: Two weeks minimum (All year round)

Role:

As a journalism intern with Pro-Passion Projects, you will gain hands-on experience working with leading newspapers in Ghana. This internship offers a unique opportunity to develop your journalism skills while contributing to major news outlets in Accra.

Responsibilities:

1. Reporting and Writing:

• Assist in researching and writing news articles, features, and editorials.
• Cover a variety of topics including current events, human interest stories, and local issues.
• Conduct interviews, gather information, and fact-check reports to ensure accuracy and reliability.

1. Editing and Proofreading:

• Support the editorial team by editing and proofreading articles for clarity, grammar, and adherence to style guidelines.
• Assist in reviewing content for publication and making necessary revisions.

1. News Gathering:

• Attend press conferences, community events, and other newsworthy gatherings to collect information and report on developments.
• Collaborate with reporters and editors to ensure timely and comprehensive coverage of news stories.

1. Administrative Support:

• Provide support in organizing and managing news materials, including archiving and filing.
• Assist with administrative tasks related to news production and editorial processes. 5. Media Monitoring:
• Track and analyze media trends and developments to provide insights and updates on current news topics.
• Prepare summaries and reports on media coverage and emerging issues.

Working Hours:

• Interns will work from Monday to Friday.
• Working hours are from 9 AM to 3 PM.

Additional Requirements:

• Interns are expected to adhere to the dress code appropriate for a professional newsroom.∙
• Interns must bring their own laptops.

Supervision:

• Interns will be supervised by seasoned Chief Editors at The Finder and The Daily Guide newspapers.
• They will also be on the field with assigned journalists to coordinate their work and gain practical experience.

Organizational Support:

• Pre-Departure Support: Comprehensive guidance and assistance before departure. ∙
• Airport Pick-Up: Pick-up service upon arrival in Ghana.
• Host Family Accommodation: Stay with a host family, including breakfast, lunch, dinner, portable drinking water, and room cleaning.
• Orientation: Detailed orientation program upon arrival.
• Project Placement: Placement at The Finder and The Daily Guide newspapers with structured responsibilities.
• 24/7 Staff Support: Continuous support from Pro-Passion Projects staff.
• Social Activities: Organized activities to explore and enjoy local culture.

COURT AND GHANA PARLIAMENT HOUSE VISIT

Journalism Volunteers/interns will have the unique opportunity to visit local courts to observe court proceedings, providing insight into the judicial process. Additionally, when Parliament is in session, you will have the chance to visit the Ghana Parliament House to witness parliamentary proceedings firsthand. This project offers an unparalleled experience for aspiring journalists to deepen their understanding of legal and political reporting.
