What You Will Do During Your Internship

You’ll work alongside local healthcare teams and public health officers at Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital or LEKMA Polyclinic in Accra.
Each week combines hospital observation with community-based fieldwork.

Hospital Placement (Monday–Friday, 8 AM–3 PM)

  • Observe doctors and nurses during consultations and ward rounds.
  • Learn about disease diagnosis, treatment, and patient education.
  • Support health data collection and minor administrative duties.

Community Health Outreach (Twice Weekly)

  • Conduct blood pressure and BMI checks under supervision.
  • Assist in malaria testing and basic wound dressing.
  • Deliver health education on hygiene, malaria prevention, and reproductive health.
  • Help refer patients to hospitals when necessary.

Position: Public Health Intern
Project Placement: Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital or LEKMA Polyclinic in Accra
Duration: Two weeks minimum (All year round)

Role

As a public health intern with Pro-Passion Projects, you will have the opportunity to gain invaluable experience in both hospital settings and community outreach programs. This internship will provide you with hands-on exposure to public health practices and medical care in Ghana.

Responsibilities:

  1. Hospital Observations:
    • Work at either Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital or LEKMA Polyclinic in Accra.
    • Primarily observe medical practitioners as they diagnose and treat patients.
    • Assist with minor tasks as directed by the supervising medical practitioner.
  1. Community Outreach:
    • Participate in medical community outreach programs twice a week.
    • Engage in hands-on practical work including dressing wounds, checking BMI, and measuring blood pressure and malaria using kits.
    • Advise patients whose blood pressure is above normal and those with malaria to seek medical attention in the hospital.
    • Conduct these activities under the supervision of the Pro-Passion Projects public health coordinator.
  1. Health Education:
    • Plan and implement health education activities and workshops.
    • Collaborate with local health workers to address specific health concerns within the community.
  1. Support and Administration:
    • Assist with administrative tasks related to patient care and hospital operations.
    • Support the medical team in organizing and maintaining medical records.

Working Hours:

  • Interns will work from Monday to Friday.
  • Working hours are from 8 AM to 3 PM.

Additional Requirements:

  • Pro-Passion Projects will provide lab coats for interns.
  • Interns need to bring their own scrubs (3 sets).
  • Any additional medical supplies from the intern are welcome.
  • Dress code is professional, adhering to medical standards.
  • Supervision by a professional medical practitioner.

Treatment of Wounds: Assist in the treatment of wounds and minor injuries, ensuring proper care and preventing infections.

Lab Coat Provision:

Interns, volunteers or professionals would be provided with Pro-Passion Projects lab coats for use during their medical outreach. These lab coats are essential for maintaining hygiene standards and professional appearance during clinical duties.

Scrubs Requirement:

Interns are required to bring along 3 sets of scrubs for their outreach programs. These scrubs will be used during their clinical duties at the placement and are essential for maintaining hygiene standards.
