Location: Accra, Ghana

Overview

Pro-Passion Projects invites passionate law students, recent graduates, alumni, and aspiring legal professionals to join our Law, Human Rights & Democracy Internship in Ghana. This immersive experience offers hands-on legal training, human rights engagement, and exposure to democratic development in a uniquely impactful setting.

Interns will gain practical experience through legal aid work, community education, mediation, and civic engagement—all while contributing to justice and empowerment for underserved communities in Ghana.

Key Internship Activities

🔹 Legal Practice at the Legal Aid Commission

  • Conduct client interviews, consultations, and legal research.
  • Draft legal documents and assist in case preparation.
  • Attend court sessions and provide trial support.
  • Participate in administrative duties and case management.

🔹 Mediation Center Experience (Accra Nima)

  • Spend Thursdays at a local mediation center in a predominantly Muslim community.
  • Support traditional and Islamic mediation processes alongside local authorities.
  • Learn about informal justice systems and culturally rooted dispute resolution.

🔹 Community Engagement with Achievers Ghana

  • Deliver legal and human rights education to girls and youth.
  • Help organize legal aid clinics and community workshops.
  • Advocate for access to justice in underserved neighborhoods.

🔹 Democracy & Governance Session with CDD-Ghana

  • Participate in a special session on Ghana’s democratic framework.
  • Explore issues around civic education, governance, and public accountability.

🔹 Educational Visits

  • Visit the Parliament House of Ghana (if in session).
  • Tour the W.E.B. Du Bois Memorial Centre and Cocoa Processing Company for historical and economic insight.

Cultural & Social Activities

Enhance your global learning experience through immersive cultural exploration:

  • 🍽️ Ghanaian Cooking Lessons – Learn to prepare popular local dishes.
  • 🪘 Drumming & Dancing Workshops – Experience the rhythms and movements of traditional Ghanaian culture.
  • 🌆 Guided Tour of Accra – Visit historic sites, arts districts, markets, and more.
  • 🗣️ Local Language Lessons – Learn basic phrases in Twi and Ga for better community interaction.

Working Hours

  • Monday to Friday | Approx. 40–50 hours/week
  • Thursdays: 10:00 AM – 6:00 PM (Mediation + Achievers Ghana Work)

Supervision

  • Directly supervised by Yvonne Amegashie, Assistant Director, Legal Aid Commission
  • Program coordinated by Joseph Odoteye, Director & Destination Expert, Pro-Passion Projects.

Support Provided

  • Pre-departure orientation & travel guidance
  • Airport pick-up in Accra
  • Host family accommodation with 3 meals/day
  • 24/7 in-country staff support
  • Social & cultural integration
  • Certificate of Completion & Reference Letter
