Law Internships in Ghana, Africa.

Project: Law Internship Abroad

Project Placement: Legal Aid Commission, Ghana

Duration: Two-Four Weeks Minimum

Role: As a law intern with Pro-Passion Projects at the Legal Aid Commission in Ghana, you will gain practical legal experience while contributing to the provision of legal services to underprivileged people who cannot afford an attorney. This internship offers a hands-on understanding of the legal system and the challenges faced by individuals in accessing justice.

Responsibilities:

  1. Legal Research and Analysis:
    • Conduct in-depth legal research on issues including human rights, criminal law, family law, and civil matters.
    • Analyze case files and prepare legal opinions and briefs.
  1. Client Interviews and Consultations:
    • Assist in conducting interviews with clients to gather relevant information and understand their legal issues.
    • Provide clients with basic legal advice under the supervision of experienced lawyers.
  1. Document Preparation:
    • Draft legal documents such as petitions, affidavits, motions, and agreements.
    • Assist in the preparation of case files for court proceedings.
  1. Court Assistance:
    • Attend court sessions with Legal Aid lawyers and observe proceedings.
    • Assist in organizing case materials and providing support during trials and hearings.
  1. Community Outreach and Education:
    • Participate in community outreach programs aimed at educating the public about their legal rights and available legal services.
    • Help organize and conduct legal aid clinics and workshops.
  1. Administrative Support:
    • Provide administrative support to the Legal Aid Commission, including filing, data entry, and maintaining client records.
    • Assist in the coordination of meetings and legal aid activities.
  1. Mediation Center Experience:
    • Spend days working at the mediation center in Accra Nima, a Muslim slum where the Quran is used to pass rulings.
    • Engage with the community and assist in mediating disputes under the guidance of local authorities.
  1. Parliamentary Observation:
    • Visit the Parliament House of Ghana if it is in session during the internship to observe parliamentary proceedings and gain insights into legislative processes.
  1. Center for Democratic Development (CDD):
    • Spend time at the CDD Center for Democratic Development, engaging in activities and discussions that promote democratic governance and human rights.

Working Hours:

  • Interns will work from Monday to Friday, 8 AM to 3 PM.

Additional Requirements:

  • Interns need to bring their own laptops.
  • Dress code is formal.
  • Supervision by Esq Lawyer Yvonne Amegashie, Assistant Director, Legal Aid Commission, Ghana.

Organizational Support:

  • Pre-Departure Support: Comprehensive guidance and assistance before departure.
  • Airport Pick-Up: Pick-up service upon arrival in Ghana.
  • Host Family Accommodation: Stay with a host family, including breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
  • Orientation: Detailed orientation program upon arrival.
  • Project Placement: Placement at the Legal Aid Commission with structured responsibilities.
  • 24/7 Staff Support: Continuous support from Pro-Passion Projects staff.
  • Social Activities: Organized activities to explore and enjoy local culture.

Our volunteer and internship programs provide hands-on experience, mentorship, and opportunities for personal and professional growth in various areas of law and social justice.

OUR VOLUNTEERS

They will be working directly with our local lawyers, who double up as their supervisors for their entire stay. Assist in drafting legal suit, Plaintiff statement, Defense statement, Witness statement ect.

Pro-Passion Projects volunteers and interns will have the opportunity to learn about the legal system in Ghana.

Pro-Passion Projects volunteers and interns will have the opportunity to learn about the legal system in Ghana.

Per our Law/Human Rights project, you will have the opportunity to witness mediation in the Islamic way at the Mediation Center where Imams use the Quoran to pass judgement.

Pro-Passion Projects will also arrange for parliament watch for its volunteers if parliament is in session.
