What You Will Do

Legal Aid Commission Placement

  • Assist with case preparation, client intake, and documentation.
  • Conduct legal research and summarize findings for supervisors.
  • Observe lawyers in court, noting legal procedures, case arguments, and judgment processes.
  • Support pro bono work for underserved communities.

Court & Parliament Observation

  • Attend court hearings and observe trial procedures.
  • Visit Ghana’s Parliament to learn about legislative processes.
  • Participate in Q&A sessions with MPs or legal staff to understand lawmaking in practice.

Research & Advocacy Projects

  • Conduct research on local laws, policies, and human rights issues.
  • Draft briefs or reports on community legal challenges.
  • Support mediation initiatives for conflict resolution.
  • Contribute to workshops or seminars for awareness campaigns in local communities.

About the Law Internship Project

Project Title: Law Internship Abroad

Role Overview

As a law intern with Pro-Passion Projects at the Legal Aid Commission Ghana, you’ll gain practical legal experience while contributing to legal services for people who cannot afford an attorney.

Key Responsibilities

Legal Research and Analysis:

  • Conduct in-depth research on human rights, criminal, family, and civil law.
  • Analyze case files and prepare legal opinions and briefs.

Client Interviews and Consultations:

  • Assist in conducting client interviews to gather relevant information.
  • Provide basic legal advice under supervision.

Document Preparation:

  • Draft petitions, affidavits, motions, and agreements.
  • Prepare case files for court proceedings.

Court Assistance:

  • Attend court sessions with Legal Aid lawyers.
  • Assist in organizing case materials and providing support during trials.

Community Outreach and Education:

  • Participate in programs educating the public about legal rights.
  • Organize and conduct legal aid clinics and workshops.

Administrative Support:

  • Provide filing, data entry, and coordination assistance.

Unique Learning Opportunities

Mediation Center Experience:

  • Spend days at the Mediation Center in Nima, where local leaders use the Quran for dispute resolution.
  • Assist in mediation sessions and learn culturally grounded justice systems.

Parliamentary Observation:

  • Visit Ghana’s Parliament House to observe live sessions and legislative discussions.

Center for Democratic Development (CDD):

Working Hours & Requirements

  • Monday – Friday, 8 AM – 3 PM
